1. Who are you?
I am Anthony Dyson, I am 28 years old and I am a Husband and a Father to two absolute superstars. I love to create but I can easily get over excited and off track. I am passionate and intense, caring and generous, but I can fall victim to my thoughts at times. I want to change the small portion of the world that is within my reach by being the kind of person that brings out the best in people. I am on a journey of gratitude and self-discovery. I like to train physically and play any and every sport I can manage to sign up to and can be guilty of being too competitive (If that’s even a thing). I like to think I am fun and a bit of a larrikin and, as Amy can attest, I have an inability to be serious at the correct times on occasion.
2. What is your biggest passion?
My biggest passion in the arena of life is to inspire betterment in any way that I possibly can. I have started a few projects to help realise this dream in The Pride Active and the one you are on right now, Leaving a Lighthouse. I sat down a few months ago and worked on a personal mission statement that is what I can refer to in times of low motivation, something to keep me on track when I falter. It is :
“I will pound the stone every single day, mentally and physically, to inspire change through example.”
That is my biggest passion, to make myself better every day and inspire those around me to do the same.
3. What are the BIG moments of your life? The ones that have shaped your life to where it is today.
I’m sure there have been countless little moments that have shaped my life to where it is right now but the biggest two were meeting my daughter, Piper, and my beautiful wife, Amy. I always had this feeling of potential, not in an egotistical way but a deep self-expectation of providing more from my life. To be frankly honest, before meeting Amy, I was not fulfilling that expectation. She has helped more than I could ever explain in this short format but she has improved my focus, she has encouraged me to constantly challenge myself, to love more, to appreciate every moment, to be more calm and calculated, to simply be better. I don’t call her my superstar for no reason.
Big moment number two was having my daughter, Piper. Having a larger purpose in this life by becoming a Father is a huge responsibility and one that I am honoured to accept. I hope the information and lessons that I can pass on in person and in the pages of this project reflect that responsibility.
4. A book recommendation?
There are so many out there have been the catalyst for a huge shift in my thoughts and the way that I interpret the world, that its hard to narrow down one but if I had to it would be “The Way of the Peaceful Warrior” by Dan Millman. It was one of the first ones I read that lead me on m current path and probably my most recommended.
5. What is your Lighthouse Message?
“Always value the importance of self-awareness and develop a narrative of gratitude.”
I have found that if you don’t continually work on self-awareness then it becomes extremely hard to grow in any capacity, whether that be in self-development, work, relationships, academics, sports etc.
If you can’t recognize your own strengths and flaws then it’s nearly impossible to keep moving forward, and I believe that’s the ultimate goal. To continue to move the needle forward every day, stoke your fire, and give your best self to this world.
Be in touch with your thoughts and feelings and this recognition will lead you to a growth mindset, and people with a growth mindset just look at the world in a better light.
Hand in hand with self-awareness is to develop narrative of gratitude. Once you are aware of your thoughts and the constant internal monologue then you can start to re shape it into anything you want. Work on being in a consistent state of gratitude and you will be able to handle the situations of life in a more accepting state. There is always something to be grateful for.
Thank you for taking the time to read my answers and I hope to share your message in the future.
Anthony
